What: Theirworld and UNICEF are joining forces to make education a priority by hosting a two-hour special event that is the culmination of a year long campaign for the #UpForSchool petition, launched last year, to get every child into school and learning and now has more than 6 million supporters. The event will be hosted by UN Special Envoy Gordon Brown and international advocate for women’s and children's rights, former freedom fighter and first Education Minister of Mozambique Graça Machel. The Town Hall will include special performances, awards, and stories from education leaders and youth across the globe emphasizing the importance of education with a focus on safe schools and girl’s education.
Opportunity: A chance for students and young people to participate in a global movement. They will learn more about the issues that face their peers around the world and as well as see young people, their age, exceed and fight for the rights of children everywhere. Schools will be recognized for their participation and students will have the chance to interact with leaders and celebrities.
What is #UpForSchool? #UpForSchool gives people the opportunity to get involved in the global movement to get 58 million out of school children into school and learning. The petition and campaign were launched by youth leaders around the world in September 2014, and people are now connecting and mobilising together under the banner #UpForSchool to bring attention to all the different issues that are keeping children from being in school and learning.
